Paint, assemble and cuss at your very own bat as you bring it to life.
This listing is for a DIY 'Night Bite' woodcut and contains all the pieces you need to create a custom Night Bite woodcut. Pieces are supplied 'straight from being cut' - unpainted, loose and I advise a little preparation before painting them. I would recommend reading the full listing to gauge how much work these require and to see if they're right for you.
While not hugely difficult to assemble there are some very small parts that do require a steady hand and some patience, especially when gluing the pieces together. Assembled and painted versions of this woodcut are available separately if you would rather just have a finished piece ready to display. My own finished versions are showing in the listing images, this may give you an idea of what you can achieve, or you can go completely off the rails.
The Woodcut
_________________
- Approx assembled size - 12.5cm x 14.3cm.
- Contains all parts to create and hang your own Night Bite woodcut. See listing images for a breakdown of individual parts. Includes spare sets of eyes and teeth.
- All pieces are made from 0.4cm MDF.
- Small d-ring included to hang but as the woodcuts are pretty light, adhesive backings like 3M locking dots could also be used.
Tips & Tricks

These are just a few of my own findings that have helped along the way when building my own bats. Some I would recommend, others you may pass on, whatever works for you.
- Before you start any painting I would recommend to lightly wipe all pieces with a damp sponge or cloth (do not soak!). This removes a lot of the darker coloured residue you may see on some pieces that comes from the cutting process.
- You may want to prime the wood before painting. I have used transparent Gesso on some pieces but in all honesty didn't notice any difference with the amount of paint needed or coverage vs pieces I didn't prime.
- Acrylic paint was used for all of my pieces. I also used a matt varnish to finish.
- Small pieces of sponge are a good brush alternative when painting medium/larger pieces.
- I would recommend painting everything first before assembling, there are some tricky spaces to navigate if not.
- I used superglue for fixing the separate parts. However this dries very quickly and was often tricky with setting the teeth in position (my least favourite part!). Wood glue may be better, but I have no experience with this.
- Use glue sparingly and do not use too close to the edge - allow room for this to spread when fixing to another piece.
- If using the d-ring to hang you may first want to make a small indent in the wood by using a small nail and hammer. This makes it a little easier for the screw to be driven in.
- Have fun and let me see your finished bats.
